New Wave icons at the Big Dome

The Human League

MANILA, Philippines - On Oct. 10, Filipinos are in for a treat as Ovation Productions brings New Wave icons Belinda Carlisle, Howard Jones and The Human League. They will perform their hits from the ’80s at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.

Fresh from her North American reunion tour with her original band The Go-Gos, Belinda is known for her upbeat ’80s dance tunes Heaven is a Place on Earth, I Get Weak and Mad About You that reigned the charts in the US and the UK back in the day.

Belinda was the vocalist of The Go-Gos before the band parted ways. The all-female band brought such New Wave songs as Head Over Heels, We Got the Beat and Our Lips Are Sealed.

Howard will take Filipinos down memory lane and show how New Wave really sounded back in the ’80s. Known for defining the sound of synth pop, he was responsible for bringing the chart-toppers like What Is Love, No One is to Blame, Things Can Only Get Better and New Song.

Howard has also collaborated with Dutch DJ and trance music producer Freddy Corsten and co-produced music for all-female group Sugababes with Robie Bronnimann. His song Things Can Only Get Better can also be heard in the popular game The Sims2.

Known for its use of synthesizers, a unique style that is to have been the precursor for today’s pop, The Human League (composed of Philip Oakey, Joanne Catherall and Susan Ann Sulley) brought to the world tunes like Don’t You Want Me, Human, Fascination, Mirror Man, among many others.

The Human League’s biggest album is Dare, released in 1982. It yielded the multimillion selling single Don’t You Want Me. The song was well-received by music lovers and it spent four weeks at the top spot and stayed in the UK charts for 77 weeks before it hit the triple platinum mark.

With a successful track record that spans decades, the one-time musical celebration will be a hit among those who grew up listening and loving New Wave. It will be a fun-filled night with singing, dancing and reminiscing.
