LVN staged a casting coup in 1961 by pairing Fernando Poe Jr. and Charito Solis in the action-drama Sandata at Pangako. He was Da King and she was the drama queen of LVN.
Then FPJ was identified with Premiere, where he topbilled some of its action blockbusters, including those directed by Gerry de Leon. Sandata at Pangako was the only movie Da King made for LVN.
In the story, FPJ vowed never to carry a gun again, but to save Charito from the clutches of a drug syndicate he was forced to hold one again.
It took more than 10 years for Da King and the drama queen to co-star for the second and last time. In the ’70s, they appeared in Isla Puting Bato produced by Lea. — RKC
