MANILA, Philippines - From the award-winning producers Sam Raimi (Spider-Man), Rob Tapert (The Grudge), Joshua Donen (The Quick and the Dead) and Steven DeKnight (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) comes the graphic and visceral new series, Spartacus: Blood and Sand, premiering for the first time in Asia on July 10 at 10 p.m. on MAX.
Betrayed by the Romans, forced into slavery, reborn as a gladiator, torn from his homeland and the woman he loves, Spartacus is condemned to the brutal world of the arena where blood and death are primetime entertainment. But not all battles are fought upon the sands. Treachery, corruption and the allure of sensual pleasures will constantly test Spartacus. To survive, he must become more than a man. More than a gladiator. He must become a legend.
Known for a unique mix of live action, graphic novel effects and brutal battle sequences, the epic television event stars Australian actor Andy Whitfield (McLeod’s Daughters) as Spartacus, Lucy Lawless (Xena: Warrior Princess) as Lucretia, John Hannah (The Mummy) as Batiatus and Peter Mensah (300) as Doctore.
Spartacus: Blood and Sand was a breakout success in the US. Its premiere episode attracted 3.8 million viewers, attracting more viewers in its premiere week than Dexter and The Tudors in their respective premiere weeks, and sustaining a continued viewership averaging more than one million viewers each week.
