A new test for Vic

MANILA, Philippines - Vic Sotto’s box-office record in the annual Metro Manila Film Festival remains unparalleled up to this time. For seven straight years, all his entries were proclaimed top grossers, something other actors haven’t achieved. From Lastikman (2002), Fantastik Man (2003) to the Enteng Kabisote series (2004 to 2007) and last year’s Iskul Bukol (20 Years After), the comedian-host lorded it over the tills, thus earning him the title Undisputed Box-office King of the MMFF.

This year, Vic promises to continue his winning streak with his official entry Ang Darling Kong Aswang, a fantasy-comedy-horror. He is in his best element again in the Tony Reyes film. Produced by Orly Ilacad’s OctoArts Films, Vic’s M-Zet TV Productions and Tony Tuviera’s APT Entertainment, the movie is expected to claim the top spot in the box-office standing when all MMFF entries open come Dec. 25.

The three major outfits which collaborated for the project are leaving no stone unturned to ensure its success. They only want the best for their viewers who have always supported them for the last seven years. Budget, story and casting-wise, the movie is one of Vic’s biggest MMFF entries in the tradition of his past offerings.

The plot is enticing. Filipinos have this penchant for dark creatures from Philippine folkfore where the aswang is the most prominent. The movie’s horror element combined with comedy and state-of-the-art special effects is a hit to viewers of all ages, especially kids.

Ang Darling Kong Aswang also marks Vic’s maiden team-up with Cristine Reyes. Her choice as Vic’s leading lady in the movie proves her hot stature in show business. The funny but sensible Vic meets the sexy Cristine. It’s a fresh screen combination which guarantees to tickle everyone.

Cristine plays a reluctant aswang and Vic is a widower who falls in love with a creature of the night. Their struggles and adventures will keep viewers glued to their seats.

Ang Darling Kong Aswang also stars Jean Garcia, Agot Isidro, Richie D’ Horsie, Dante Rivero, Jackie Rice, Denise Laurel, Rafael Rosell, Empress Schuck, Allan K, Joonee Gamboa, Luz Fernandez, Jenny Miller, Gian Sotto, Wally Bayola, Tita Swarding, Mosang, Shalala, Mika dela Cruz and Barbie Forteza.

Joey de Leon, Pia Guanio, Oyo Sotto and Jacky Woo will make special guest appearances.
