MANILA, Philippines - The Marketing Communication Office of De La Salle University, represented by executive director Ayi Magpayo (center), was awarded the Excellence Award for its public information campaign on the Influenza A(H1N1) virus during the 2009 Philippine Quill Awards held last Oct. 22 at the PICC Forum.
With Magpayo are operations director Jingo Badillo (second from right) and marketing coordinator Mark Pitoc (rightmost).
DLSU is the only academic institution among the 35 excellence awardees this year.
Its Be Flu-less, Not Clueless campaign was a massive public information drive to contain the further spread of the Influenza A (H1N1) virus, after the pandemic broke out last summer. The campaign also sought to ease the anxiety of the university’s various stakeholders, insofar as the nature of the virus was concerned.
Working with the Health Department, the university took the position that all subsequent actions might be used by other institutions and organizations as a template for their own responses. Various channels were utilized to connect with parents and students of La Salle and neighboring communities.
The campaign won in the Issues Management and Crisis Communication category.
The Philippine Quill Awards are handed out annually by the International Association of Business Communicators to honor outstanding corporate communication programs and tools.
