MANILA, Philippines - The American Hospitality Academy (AHA) Philippines is bringing in Master Chef Toba Garrett (photo) from New York to teach its students the intricate art of cake design from Oct. 7 to 9 and to lead a cake decorating workshop at the US Embassy on Oct. 10. She will guest in Lucy Torres’ Sweet Life on Q-11 on Oct. 5.
For 30 years, Chef Toba has studied and mastered this intricate art and has won more than a dozen international gold and silver medals and diplomas. These include the trophy of Les Commandarie des Cordons Bleus de France and the 14-karat-gold medal-of-honor from Le Societè Culinaire Philanthropique de New York. She has been featured on The Today Show, Home Matters and Emeril Live while her work has appeared in magazines including In-Style, Modern Bride, Gourmet, Woman’s Day and Chocolatier.
Toba is part of AHA Philippines’ World Master Class Series, a program that brings in the master chefs from all over the world to train the academy’s students and instructors. The series includes multi-awarded executive chefs and pioneers of culinary education including Chefs Susina Jooste (South Africa), Hubertus Cramer (Germany), Michael Caffrey (London), Gene Cordova (Philippines), Dr. Rosalinda Lagman-Hoops (US) and Dr. Corazon Gatchalian (Philippines).
