MANILA, Philippines - Mallgoers will have the rare chance to see some of the country’s most talented young classical dancers perform as Ballet Philippines presents Masterworks tomorrow, July 31, 6 p.m. at SM Megamall Atrium.
The event will showcase different iconic pieces from different disciplines and choreographers all in one show, and will have Igorot as its opening number. First performed in 1989, Igorot is Agnes Locsin’s first of numerous works for Ballet Philippines.
Also in the repertoire are excerpts from Ensalada, Evacuation, Gaano Kadalas, Swimming the Ilog Pasig, Bach Concerto, and the Romeo and Juliet Balcony Scene.
The dramatic Te Deum, a Denisa Reyes creation based on the music of Georges Bizet will be the finale for the group excerpts performed for the evening.
On its 40th year, Ballet Philippines has established a name in the international scene for being the flagship and premiere dance company in ballet and contemporary dance at the Cultural Center of the Philippines. With its strong diverse mastery of various disciplines, the group continues to present works from classical ballets, Filipino folklore and widely-recognized masterpieces.
