Wolverine scores big at the tills

MANILA, Philippines – X-Men Origins: Wolverine clawed in a staggering P46, 260,794 box-office nationwide in its four-day opening weekend which opened last week in 244 theaters.

Action amplified, Wolverine’s opening accelerated the X-Men franchise to P386,335,062 where from X-Men in August 2000 grossed P56.4-M, X2: X-Men United in April 2003 grossed P120.5-M and X-Men: The Last Stand grossed P163.1-M

Based on actual Metro Manila figures from its local distributor Warner Bros. (F.E.), 20th Century Fox’s Wolverine cut through as industry-wide’s Biggest Opening Day for 2009 so far at P9.24-M. Droves of audiences flocked to see Wolverine on the big screen which resounded in huge box-office receipts wherein Trinoma cinema topped the list as it pulled in a P3.5-M gross in its four-day weekend release. Succeeding Trinoma’s feat is SM Mall of Asia with P2.2-M followed by Greenbelt 3 with P2.03-M as the third top cinema. Glorietta 4 cinema came in fourth with P2.009-M and Powerplant at fifth with P1.92-M.

Other cinemas included in the Top 20 which drew in crowds of audiences are Alabang Town Center with P1.88-M; Eastwood, P1.83-M; SM Megamall, P1.76-M; The Block/SM North Edsa, P1.59-M; Shang Cineplex, P1.41-M; Theatermall, P1.37-M; Gateway Cineplex, P1.31-M; Ayala Cebu, P1.08-M; Robinsons Ermita, P1-M; Filinvest, P894,365; Robinsons Galleria, P886,616; SM Cebu, P813,278; SM Baguio, P738,402; Market Market, P706,776; and SM Clark, P631,554.
