MANILA, Philippines - In spite of the popularity of rap and hip-hop music, retro music, the music of the ‘70s and ‘80s, still has a solid following.
This will be proven again when the 8Track Band, a band that specializes in retro music, stages a one-night concert on April 30 at Bagaberde Roxas Boulevard. Billed as Backtrack, the concert will be a trip back in time to the era of disco, swing, new wave and music that just made people want to get up and dance.
8Track Band is made up of people like Noli who have day jobs. Half of them are dentists, one works in human resources, another one is an events planner and the rest are businessmen. They have been together since 2002, when founder Dr. Ranny Reyes was asked to perform at a friend’s party. One thing led to another, and before any of them realized it, they were getting offers to perform at other parties and corporate gatherings.
Since then, they have been all over the Philippines and even traveled to places like Cambodia, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Vietnam playing their own brand of retro music.
Backtrack is presented by Auction Manila, Forerunner, American Data Exchange, Savory Restaurant and Baluyot Realty & Commercial Center, Inc. Radio partners are 89.9 DWTM and Dream FM. Media partner is Manila Bulletin. The show is for the benefit of Philippine General Hospital’s Department of E.N.T. Cleft/Lip Palate Program.
