Mardi Gras at the Makati Shangri-La

MANILA, Philippines - All-night dancing, lavish costumes, non-stop music. That’s the spirit of the world-famous Mardi Gras celebration. It’s that same spirit that Makati Shangri-La will revive on Feb. 28, starting 8 p.m. when the hotel comes up with its Mardi Gras party.

Sing and laugh your heart out as Arpie and The MultiVitamins takes center stage at 9 p.m. for a night of carousing. Relive the magic of Mardi Gras parties the world over — from the famous Rio de Janeiro, to New Orleans and Sydney.

At Makati Shangri-La, Mardi Gras is celebrated as “Fat Saturday” or Samdi Gras. Sample exotic international snacks such as kangaroo skewers (Sydney) or shrimp etoufe (New Orleans).

Guests are encouraged to come in festive costumes. Big prizes, like an overnight stay at Makati Shangri-La, gift certificates for four at Circles Events Café or a party for 10 at Conway’s Bar, await those who come in best costumes. All this for P500 inclusive of a standard drink.

Conway’s opens daily at 5 p.m. for happy hour that entitles guests to all-they-can-drink on selected beers, wines and cocktails at P500+++ while being entertained by jazz singers, followed by Manila’s finest bands: Mondays, SuaveRotina; Tuesdays, BloomFields; Wednesdays, Highway 54; Thursdays, Spirit of ’67; Triple Fridays with MidLife Crisis or Acoustic Jive and Arpie & The MultiVitamins; Saturdays, HyperBeat. Sundays are for open mic with interactive musicians.
