MANILA, Philippines - It may have been long overdue, but better late than never. That’s what those behind Film Academy of the Philippines (FAP), organizers of the 26th Luna Awards Film Academy of the Philippines (FAP) had in mind when they held the awards rites “for distinguished achievements in 2007” the other night at the Gateway Mall’s Mandarin Oriental Suites.
Best Actress Maricel Soriano (for Regal Entertainment Inc.’s Bahay Kubo) was a no-show show since she was in the US for her upcoming birthday celebration. But Best Actor Paolo Contis (for Comguild Productions, Inc.’s Banal) was there. The love-struck winner offered his latest trophy to girlfriend Lian Paz, whom he hopes “will be the last woman in my life.”
Best Director Maryo J. delos Reyes (for Star Cinema’s A Love Story) spoke of a different love: His love for the movie industry.
“I invite people, especially producers to keep the movie industry alive. Thank you to Star Cinema for producing good films,” he said.
Best Supporting Actress Angelica Panganiban (for A Love Story) was also tearfully brimming with thank yous — to God, for “the talent so I can inspire others,” to direk Maryo and Star Cinema.
‘Til July then, when FAP director general Leo Martinez promises to hold the next awards rites, this time for 2008.
