Dramatic roles for young stars

Marita Zobel, Luz Valdez, Bernard Bonnin and Robert Campos — LVN contract stars of the ‘60s — were usually cast in light roles in comedies and romance dramas. But in Tanglaw sa Dilim, written, directed and produced by Susana C. de Guzman, the young stars went heavy drama, their toughest yet.

The plot is focused on Bernard and Robert, playing best of friends turned bitter enemies. Tanglaw sa Dilim is billed ‘Boldest drama of the year! A faithful adaptation of the radio serial acclaimed by millions.’

Luz and Robert ended up a man and wife in real life, but later separated. Robert has long ago quit showbiz; Luz still acts every now and then on television and in movies. She is a leader of the Oasis of Love, a Catholic charismatic community.

Bernard earned fame as Palos, made into a soap last year, with Cesar Montano and Jake Cuenca playing the wily thief and Bernard doing a special role. Marita married basketball star Boy Roxas, but continued her acting career. — RKC
