He has been always true and loyal to his craft. That’s why his profession has never failed to bless John Lloyd Cruz with worthy projects on the small and big screen. Upcoming is a possible teamup with KC Concepcion, touted as the next biggest star of ABS-CBN and Sharon Cuneta’s heir apparent.
Doing TV and movies for a decade doesn’t spare him from having jitters, especially now that he will work closely with someone as popular as KC.
“I was afraid and excited,” recalls John Lloyd of his initial reaction when he first heard of his and KC’s rumored movie. “Afraid because it will be our first time to work together and I hardly knew her. I have to double my efforts to make her feel comfortable.”
The real trooper that he is, John Lloyd will get along easily with KC and deliver as an actor if and when this project pushes through.
Pairing him with another female star or going solo, John Lloyd shares, is something he looks forward to. He and perennial onscreen partner Bea Alonzo are vocal about this and agree to explore their craft outside each other’s shadow. One More Chance could be their last team-up, though fans still see them on TV via Maging Sino Ka Man on ABS-CBN, so they can focus on their individual careers and find avenues to express themselves as actors. This way, the two will raise the bar regarding what else they could offer audiences as performers. This is a much-needed step to grow as artists, John Lloyd says.
“Thinking that you’ve done everything in this profession means the end of being an actor,” shares John Lloyd. “We should have (regular) work to do to better ourselves. And that’s the only way to get into what we do.” That’s why the young actor feels good whenever there are projects coming his way.
Given the chance to chart his career path, John Lloyd would love to follow in the footsteps of two-time Academy Best Actor winner Daniel Day-Lewis of There Will Be Blood. John Lloyd says Daniel has only done four movies in the last 10 years of his career and has shied away from being photographed. It’s not surprising why everybody anticipates his return to the limelight every time the Hollywood actor makes a movie.
Since visibility is vital in local showbusiness, John Lloyd can’t afford to be out of the limelight for long. Besides, he has family to support and other personal endeavors to fulfill. His work still tops in John Lloyd’s priority.
“I can compromise,” says John Lloyd of the kind of roles and projects he wishes to do. “I can still get picky and choosy. Star Cinema knows what’s best and fits for me. I will patiently wait for that day when I can do my dream project and show my range as an actor.”
Recently, John Lloyd renewed his contract as endorser of Biogesic. He considers this as a gift for being true to his craft. Having a headache is a common complaint among stars, particularly if they are on top of their profession. John Lloyd tapes five times a week for Maging Sino Ka Man and holds shows abroad. He also attends regular rehearsals and appearances for ASAP. Biogesic, John Lloyd believes, provides him the relief to get back to his usual self and off to work.
