One of the versatile performers we have in showbiz is Vina Morales. In her new movie, Eto Na Naman Ako under Millennium Cinema, Vina sings, dances and acts at the same time!
She plays Ana Maria Gomez, a successful singer-actress whose life is in danger. An obsessed fan keeps on sending death threats and the only way to ensure her safety is to hire a bodyguard. By a twist of fate, the hired bodyguard happens to be her former boyfriend and childhood sweetheart, Abel Razalo (played by Robin Padilla).
"I fell in love with the role because I get to do a lot of singing, dancing and of course, acting as well," Vina says. "It's quite challenging because I get to play myself, a celebrity. But what makes it more difficult is that I have to inject fear. My character here has been receiving death threats and she needs a bodyguard badly. Then Binoe comes into the picture as my hired bodyguard."
This is Vina's fourth team-up with the local cinema's Bad Boy. Their first and second team-up (Ang Utol Kong Hoodlum and Miss na Miss Kita: Ang Utol Kong Hoodlum 2) were two of the biggest box-office hits in the late '80s. They were reunited in one of the big blockbusters of 1999, 'Di Puwedeng Hindi Puwede. Now they are again together in Eto Na Naman Ako, which many have already predicted to be a record-breaking hit for their team-up.
"I'm happy to be working with Binoe again," she beams. "We all know that our team-up have been very successful and we appreciate the support of our followers. They will love this movie because it's a combination of action, drama, comedy and romance. They should not miss this movie because this will remind them of the movie The Bodyguard that starred Whitney Houston and Kevin Costner. They will also fall in love with the movie."
Vina says there is no secret why her team-up with Binoe has been so successful for the many years now. It's just a matter of working with the right people.
"Maybe the secret is our professionalism," Vina explains. "When Binoe and I work, we put our heart and mind into it. We don't play around. Nor do we reminisce our past relationship. We are both on the set to work and we try to give people a movie worth their money. Working with Binoe is such a wonderful thing and every actress should see how he really works hard on any project."
Ike Jarlego Jr. directs the action-comedy-romance which also stars Troy Montero, Candy Pangilinan, Rosemarie Gil, Chinggoy Alonso, Royette Padilla, Allan Paule, Vangie Labalan and others. The movie opens on June 7.
