Student behind La Salle Green Hills security threat, police confirm

MANILA, Philippines — A student was confirmed to be behind the message that caused a security concern at La Salle Green Hills (LSGH) in Mandaluyong City, the Mandaluyong City Police chief said.

In an interview with reporters on Thursday, August 27, Mandaluyong City Police Chief Colonel Reynan Patam said that the student identified himself as a "shooter" in a group chat, which resulted in a security concern.

"Nag reach out naman na po ang school officials sa parents po," Patam said.

(The school officials have already reached out to the parents.)

"Anytime magkakaroon po sila ng pag-uusap, ito rin pong ating kapulisan," he added.

(The school officials and police will also have a discussion at any time.)

Patam noted that after the student shared the message with peers, they promptly alerted their parents, which led both school officials and local authorities to react immediately to the potential threat.

In response, LSGH switched to online classes due to the security threat.

"Our top priority will always be the protection and peace of mind of our children and school family," the LSGH said.

On August 26, another school, San Beda College Alabang, also shifted its classes to online classes "out of an abundance of caution following an unverified safety concern."

The school was declared safe hours after the alleged threat.

The said threats came a week after the school shooting at Ateneo de Zamboanga University, which left two individuals dead and 23 injured.
