CEBU, Philippines — FDC Misamis Power Corp., the power generation arm of the Filinvest Group, has secured a two-year power supply agreement with Vivant Energy’s retail electricity unit COREnergy, expanding its reach in the country’s contestable electricity market as demand from commercial and industrial consumers continues to grow.

Under the agreement, FDC Misamis will supply 20 megawatts of contracted capacity to COREnergy, strengthening the retailer’s electricity portfolio and enabling it to serve more qualified customers nationwide under the Retail Competition and Open Access (RCOA) program.

The deal links one of Mindanao’s largest baseload power producers with one of the country’s licensed retail electricity suppliers, highlighting the growing role of long-term supply partnerships as the Philippine power market gradually opens to greater consumer choice.

“This partnership with COREnergy allows us to extend the dependable power supply of FDC Misamis to more commercial and industrial customers through the retail electricity market,” FDC Misamis President and Chief Executive Officer Juan Eugenio L. Roxas said.

According to Roxas, the agreement reflects both companies’ commitment to reliable power delivery that supports business expansion and economic activity.

For COREnergy, the agreement expands the company’s supply base at a time when more businesses are seeking flexibility in managing electricity costs and sourcing requirements.

“Our customers are growing, and so is our responsibility to power that growth,” said Michael Lasam, COREnergy’s Head of Commercial Operations and Strategy. “This partnership with FDC Misamis adds meaningful capacity to our portfolio, giving us the flexibility to serve businesses beyond Metro Manila with a stronger and more resilient supply portfolio.”

Lasam said the agreement also advances the company’s goal of delivering greater choice to electricity consumers as market liberalization progresses and more customers become eligible to select their own power supplier.

The partnership reflects the increasing collaboration between power generators and retail electricity suppliers as competition in the retail electricity market intensifies, allowing businesses to secure more competitive and reliable energy sources.

FDC Misamis operates Filinvest’s flagship 405-megawatt circulating fluidized bed coal-fired power plant in Villanueva, Misamis Oriental. The facility, which began commercial operations in 2016, has become a key source of baseload generation for the Mindanao grid while supplying electricity to distribution utilities and industrial customers across the country.

COREnergy, established in 2016 as the retail electricity supply arm of Vivant Energy, provides electricity solutions to qualified contestable customers under the RCOA framework, helping businesses manage power costs and reduce exposure to electricity price volatility. — (FREEMAN)
