Foc Fashion takes on modern dating in new track

CEBU, Philippines — Indie rock outfit Foc Fashion continues their creative resurgence with the release of “I Wish That I Said”, the band’s fifth single in their ongoing comeback era.
Known for their roots in Cebu’s indie music scene and their energetic alternative rock sound, the band once again pushes into new territory with a track that trades edgy guitars for synths, samples, distorted bass, and electronic drums, all anchored by raw and vulnerable vocal performances.
According to the band, “I Wish That I Said” thematically explores modern dating – “connections that feel real, then vanish without warning; the almosts, the maybes, and the things left unsaid.”
Soundwise, the synth-heavy arrangement mirrors that same in-between space “where something almost lands, but never quite does,” echoing the uncertainty and emotional limbo that comes with fleeting relationships.
Originally formed in Cebu, Foc Fashion reemerged in recent years after founding members Mark Sy and Miguel Saballa reunited in Singapore and Mathew Wong joined them on bass. Since returning with the song “Space” in 2024, the band has steadily expanded its sound across a string of releases including the most recent “Rat Race,” each time further embracing experimentation while maintaining the honesty that defined their earlier material.
“I Wish That I Said,” available on all major streaming platforms, continues that evolution, leaning further into electronic textures while preserving the tension and intimacy that longtime listeners have come to expect from the band.
What started as a revenge band in 2007 by a group of university buddies turned into Foc Fashion, an endeavour of individuality that spanned years in the Cebu indie music scene. What used to be dreams of “world domination” later evolved into a cause that champions the voice within, an ideal shared by many who have joined the band’s call.
The group was active in the Philippine indie music scene, steadily building a following in Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao through various tours and opportunities from prior affiliates (Sonicboom Philippines, Jack Daniel’s). The group went off the radar by 2019, ending an endeavour that lasted more than 10 years.
At the end of 2022, Mark Sy, now based in Singapore, reunited with long-time drummer Miguel Saballa to reform Foc Fashion, accompanied by recent recruit Mathew Wong on bass. Paying homage to the original three-piece past, the band moved forward and sonically progressed, albeit at a more relaxed pace.
As of 2026, the band’s return is in full swing, with five singles – “Space”, “Baloney”, “Zombies”, “Rat Race”, and the latest release “I Wish That I Said” already released in anticipation of an album drop. — (FREEMAN)
