The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — Nurses emerged as the most in-demand workers in Central Visayas, with 748 job openings recorded from May 29 to June 4, 2026, according to the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Region VII.

Data from the regional labor market information report showed that professional nurses topped the list of available jobs during the period.

They were followed by production machine operators with 500 vacancies and call center agents with 420 openings. School nurses ranked fourth with 300 openings, while production workers completed the top five with 115 vacancies.

DOLE Region VII attributed the strong demand for nurses to the growing need for healthcare professionals in the region as more residents become health-conscious.

The agency also cited continuing health promotion efforts by local and national government agencies, including the implementation of the YAKAP campaign in partnership with PhilHealth.

Other occupations with significant vacancies included sales officers with 107 openings, technical support staff with 100, shop assistants with 80, cashiers with 76, and sales associate professionals with 70.

Delivery helpers and hotel housekeeping attendants each posted 57 vacancies, followed by service crew positions with 50 openings. Physiotherapists accounted for 48 vacancies, while language and literature teachers in tertiary education recorded 45 openings.

Additional opportunities were available for delivery drivers with 32 vacancies, language teachers in secondary education with 30, waiters with 25, warehouse clerks with 22, and telecommunication specialists with 20.

Most job opportunities were concentrated in major growth centers across Cebu and Bohol.

Lapu-Lapu City registered the highest number of vacancies with 5,168 available positions, followed by Cebu City with 4,389. Mandaue City recorded 553 openings, while Danao City and Talisay City posted 140 and 86 vacancies, respectively.

Other locations included Bogo City with 40 vacancies, Tagbilaran City with 10, and Panglao, Bohol with six. Compostela and Balamban in Cebu also figured among the region’s leading job sites.

DOLE VII said the dissemination of labor market information, with the assistance of Public Employment Service Office (PESO) managers aims to help jobseekers find employment opportunities more quickly.

The agency highlighted the role of the PESO Employment Information System (PEIS), a database containing records of jobseekers, employers, vacancies, and client transactions of Public Employment Service Offices nationwide.

The system also contains job vacancies and employer and jobseeker profiles captured through PhilJobNet.

DOLE VII added that the vacancies contribute to the region’s commitment to generate 20,000 jobs under the Trabaho para sa Bayan initiative launched in Panglao, Bohol.

DOLE VII encouraged jobseekers to regularly monitor labor market updates and prepare their credentials, skills, and qualifications to improve their chances of securing employment.

The agency said updated labor market information and job site listings will continue to be released in the coming weeks. (CEBU NEWS)
