Truck falls off ravine; 3 soldiers dead

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines — Three soldiers died while 25 others were injured when a military truck plunged into a ravine in Siay, Zamboanga Sibugay yesterday.

Pfc. Glen Lumacad was declared dead on arrival in a hospital in Kabasalan town, where the two other soldiers died while being treated.

 The victims, mostly personnel of the 35th Infantry Battalion led by 2nd Lt. John Paul Bacasin, were on their way to participate in an Army squad challenge when the accident occurred in Barangay Mirangan, Maj. Gen. Roseller Murillo, commander of the First Division, said.

 Fourteen soldiers and five civilians suffered serious injuries. They were airlifted to a hospital at the Western Mindanao Command.
