Van plunges into ravine; 3 dead

TUGUEGARAO, Cagayan, Philippines — Three persons died when a van plunged into a ravine in Barangay Guesset, Bokod, Benguet on Thursday night. 

A police report identified the fatalities as Gemalyn Lorenzo, 28; Antonio Bulay, 65, and Julie Valencia Umba-as, 52.

The van driver, Joseph Gavino, 47, and eight other passengers were injured and brought to the Baguio General Hospital. 

The victims were on their way to Maddela, Quirino to attend a family reunion and a wedding when the accident occurred.

Gavino said he lost control of the wheel when the brake malfunctioned.
