POEA suspends, cancels licenses of recruitment agencies amid Kuwait work ban
MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Overseas Employment Administration found 11 agencies found guilty of illegally deploying overseas Filipino workers to Kuwait.
In a press briefing Wednesday, POEA administrator Bernard Olaila bared the list of private recruitment agencies and their corresponding penalties.
- Al Bayan International Manpower Services Corp. - cancelation of license
- Bumiputra Gulf Company Inc. – cancelation of license
- Gold Fortune Human Resources Corp. – cancelation of license
- LFC International Human Resources – cancelation of license
- Aisis International Manpower Inc. – cancelation of license
- GreatWorld Management Inc. – cancelation of license
- GlobalGate International Manpower Services Inc. – cancelation of license
- MMML Recruitment Services – cancelation of license
- NRS Placement Inc. – four-month suspension of license
- SML Human Resources Inc – cancelation of license
- Best Migrant Workers International Manpower Services Inc. – cancelation of license
Five POEA personnel will be also charged for negligence or anomalous actions.
The move came after the body of domestic worker Joanna Demafelis was found in a freezer in an uninhabited apartment in Kuwait, as well as the reported cases of deaths and abuses in the Gulf country.
Labor secretary Silvestre Bello said the government is declaring a war against abuses on OFWs and illegal recruitment.
“With these directives, we now set in motion the mechanisms to prevent a repeat of the tragedy that befell Joanna Demafelis. With these bold steps, we hope to guarantee the safety and security of our migrant heroes,” he said.
