Evelyn Macairan - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — A suspected Filipino terrorist described as a “person of interest” by the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the US embassy in Manila was arrested by immigration officials at the airport yesterday.

Immigrations Port Operations Division chief Red Marinas said Abdulpatta Escalon Abubakar was arrested when he arrived on a flight from Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

Abubakar was referred to the duty immigration supervisor for secondary inspection and a check with their records reportedly showed he is a suspected terrorist and said to be supported by a local terrorist group.

Marinas said they immediately turned over Abubakar to the custody of the PNP-Intelligence Group under Supt. Romeo Daqis for further investigation.
