Bishop hits planned cockpit

BALANGA, Philippines – Bishop Ruperto Santos of the diocese of Balanga has opposed a plan to construct an air-conditioned cockpit arena near the government center in Ala-Uli, an agricultural village in Pilar town.

Saying “not everything legal is moral,” the outspoken Santos said the cockpit would seriously affect the moral fiber of the families in the province and the livelihood of its residents.

He added that gambling “will never do good to our community” and that this would breed greed and laziness.
