Tornado victims get help
CEBU, Philippines - Thirty-nine families were affected by the tornado that struck Thursday night in Valladolid town, and La Carlota and Bago cities in Negros Occidental.
In Bago City, 11 houses were destroyed, seven others were damaged, while 18 households, consisting of 70 individuals, were affected at Barangays Sagasa and Caridad in Bago City.
The affected families in Bago were immediately provided with relief packs and hygiene kits by the city government, according to the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council.
Estimated cost of damage to infrastructures had been placed at P284,000, and crop damages at P74,520, showed the CDRRMC report.
Nine families in La Carlota City and eight others in Valladolid, who were also affected by the twister, opted to seek shelter with neighbors and relatives, while some are staying within the area of their damaged houses.
Senior Inspector Junji Liba, Valladolid Police chief, said the twister hit Barangays Ayungon, Guintorilan and Batuan, destroying eight houses and damaging one more.
The Negros Occidental Provincial Social and Welfdare Development Office distributed food and tarpaulins in the three affected local government units. (FREEMAN)
