PSC-ABAP boxfest unwraps today
CEBU, Philippines - Close to 50 young aspiring pugilists from all over the country will slug it out for supremacy as the 2017 Philippine Sports Commission-Association of Boxing Alliances in the Philippines (PSC-ABAP) Amateur Boxing Tournament fires off today at the Cebu City Sports Center.
Action starts at 2 pm.
"I hope that through this endeavor, we can help develop talents as well as scout more boxing potentials who can bring honor and pride not only for Cebu but also for our country someday," said ABAP Central Visayas Board of Trustee Lorenzo 'Chao' Sy, the organizer of the two-day joust that is open to amateur fighters aged 15 to 16 years old.
The weight categories to be contested are the 44-46 kgs., 48 kgs., 50 kgs., 52 kgs., 54 kgs., 57 kgs., 60 kgs., 63 kgs. and 66 kgs.
The Cebuano entries are coming from San Roque, Big Yellow Boxing Club, 10,000 BC, and Talisay City Amateur Boxing Association (TACABA), all from the city of Talisay, Phil-Aust gym of Mandaue, Team Cebu City, Naga, Consolacion, Liloan, Medellin and Daanbantayan.
They will be challenged by combatants from Manila, Davao and Cagayan de Oro.
More than the cash prizes and medals at stake, the top perfomers will have a chance to form part of the Philippine team for the 2018 AIBA Youth World Boxing Championship. (FREEMAN)
