Capitol eyes SRP as new terminal site
CEBU, Philippines - The Capitol is looking at the possibility of transferring the Cebu South Bus Terminal to the South Road Property to decongest the area where the terminal is presently located.
Cebu Governor Hilario Davide III said the plan may be realized as soon as the land swapping deal with the Cebu City government is completed.
At least 2.5 hectares of SRP lot will be included in the properties that the City of Cebu will swap the province for its properties under Ordinance 93-1.
Davide, however, said a thorough study should be conducted on the proposal.
The Capitol has long been planning to relocate the terminal from its current location along Natalio Bacalso Avenue because of the traffic problem.
In fact, there had been suggestions before from former mayor Michael Rama to transfer it to Minglanilla or in Talisay City. However, the proposal was met with opposition from the riding public and the bus drivers.
The passengers and the bus drivers are more favorable to relocate the terminal at the SRP because it is not far away from the city.
Davide admitted that the situation in the terminal is already congested. —/FPL (FREEMAN)
