MANILA, Philippines — Water gates of Angat Dam in Bulacan supplying water to Metro Manila have been closed on Monday due to rains brought by Typhoon Nina.

Richard Orendain, a hydrologist from state weather agency PAGASA, said the reservoir's water level at 6 a.m. on Monday was at 210.95 meters, near the spilling level of 213 meters, before its gates were shut.

"Hindi na po nag rerelease ng tubig ang Angat Dam, para po ito sa flood control," Orendain said at a televised press conference.

Orendain said rain water will instead be stored in the reservoir instead of releasing it.

Magat Dam management in Isabela, meanwhile, has yet to announce if water will be released. Orendain said that there is, after all, little rain in the area.

Magat Dam's last recorded elevation was at 192.38 meters at 6 a.m. on Monday, PAGASA said.

San Roque Dam has similarly not stored much rain water. It was at 280.51 meters as of 6 a.m.
