Gemology and jewelry design

Yasunari Ramon Suarez Taguchi - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - “Know all the rules first, so you’ll know which rule to break in the pursuit of your goals.”

This dictum may sound like a loopy misnomer, but for gemologist and jewelry designer Jarra Angbetic, it plays a crucial role in the making of standout jewelry pieces that double as wearable forms of art.

Recently celebrating the Cebu launch of “Jarra” – Angbetic’s self-named jewelry brand – a trunk show of Jarra’s “Copacabana Holiday 2016 collection” was held at Holicow at The Crossroads in Banilad.

Composed of the brand’s “Piña Colada”, “Melancia”, “Alua” and “Rabo de Galo” lines, among many others, the collection is molded from a fusion of classic settings and vibrantly-hued gems – inspired by the distinct forms of tropical fruits and fauna.

Embodying the ‘wearable art’ ideal, the collection is mainlined by zesty details that underscore the minimalist-yet-standout dynamism of the normcore trend – to  complement chic resortwear, luxe eveningwear and laid-back loungewear fashion ensembles.

Crafted in a gamut of pastels and neutrals, the collection is mainly a synthesis of tropical themes and modernist art movements, a transliteration of classic creative styles like Cubism, Fauvism, Dadaism and Suprematism as wearable forms.

Culturally intrinsic and at the same time equivocal, Jarra’s newest in-season collection – which can be viewed in full via the website jarrajewels.com – is the outcome when art, tropical themes and a solid understanding of jewelry design and gemology are masterfully fused together as one.
