QCPD to launch portal for unclaimed bodies

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) will launch this month the first public safety portal, a website that provides database and information on unclaimed bodies in the city, an official said yesterday.

QCPD director Senior Superintendent Guillermo Eleazar said they are setting up the portal for the possible identification of the unclaimed remains by their families.

The portal will include descriptions and identifying marks of the dead such as moles and tattoos, Eleazar said.

Records from the QCPD showed that at least 75 unclaimed bodies, believed to be those of drug suspects killed either by police or vigilantes, are kept at two funeral homes in the city.

“This is our way of helping their families,” Eleazar said.

He said the public safety portal would not only include a list of the unclaimed bodies but also missing persons, pets and valuables.

The website will carry the slogan “Pamilyang nawalay, PNP mag-uugnay.”

Eleazar said families looking for their missing or deceased loved ones need to register with a valid e-mail address, which will be verified by the QCPD.

Operatives with valid accounts can also access the list of most wanted persons who have pending warrants for their arrest.

The portal may be operational before the end of the month, according to Chief Inspector Allan Corpus, head of the QCPD information technology department.

Corpus said the website could be linked and shared to social media sites.

The unclaimed bodies are kept at the St. Rafael Funeral Homes on Congressional Avenue and Lights Funeral Service along Kamias Road.
