WATCH: Palace releases heart-rending anti-drug ads directed by Brillante Mendoza
MANILA, Philippines - On Friday, Malacañang's communications office released public service announcements (PSAs) warning the public against the dangers of peddling with illegal drugs.
The two 30-second videos titled "Father" and "Mother" were directed pro-bono by award-winning director Brillante Mendoza.
Mendoza previously directed President Rodrigo Duterte's first State of the Nation Address (SONA).
Following the SONA, he admitted in an interview with Saleema Refran aired in “Unang Balita” that he was both happy and stressed to be given such task.
While not everyone favored how he handled the shots during the SONA, the Presidential Communications Office claims Mendoza's works are world-class.
“The advertisements will target the Filipino families who might be dealing with problems caused by drug abuse. All hope is not lost; the time to end illegal drug-dependence is now,” Communications Secretary Martin Andanar said in a press statement.
The ads have been endorsed by the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board to radio and television stations and will also be shown in cinemas.
