May uwi ring pilak at tanso sa Korea Open: Pinoy jins sumipa ng ginto

MANILA, Philippines – Sumipa ang national taekwondo team ng isang ginto, apat na pilak at isang tansong medalya sa 2016 Gyeongju Korea Open International Taekwondo Championships na gina-nap sa Gyeongju Gymnasium sa South Korea.

Nasungkit ni Alvaro Joaquin Aranton ang nag-iisang ginto ng Pilipinas nang pagharian nito ang junior male -78 kgs.

 Pinataob ni Aranton si Chu Po-Hsiang ng Chinese-Taipei sa gold-medal match, 14-10 iskor.

Nakapasok si Aranton sa final round matapos ilampaso si Surendran Vijayen ng Malaysia sa semifinals sa iskor na 15-1 sa torneong may basbas ng World Taek­wondo Federation.

Nagkasya naman sa pilak sina John Shadrach Tan (junior male +78 kgs.), Veronica Garces (junior female -46 kgs.), Baby Jessica Canabal (junior female -49 kgs.) at Florence Mae Chavez (junior female -55 kgs.) nang matalo ang mga ito sa kani-kanilang final matches.

Yumuko si Tan kay Nur Putra Noor Azlan ng Malaysia (4-9), tumupi si Garces kay Chang Yu-Shin ng Chinese-Taipei (5-7), natalo si Canabal  kay Sung Chia Yin ng Chinese-Taipei (0-1), at lumuhod si Chavez kay Mushtariybegim Mavlya­nova ng Uzbekistan (via superiority).

Ang tanso ay galing kay Raymundo Alombro 3rd sa junior male -51 kgs.

Hindi naman pinalad na makapasok sa medal round sina Rio-bound Kirstie Elaine Alora (women’s +73 kgs.) at Southeast Asian Games champion Pauline Louise Lopez (women’s -57 kgs.) gayundin sina Kristopher Robert Uy (men’s +87 kgs.), Jenar Torillos (men’s -58 kgs.), Levita Ronna Ilao (women’s -49 kgs.), Arven Alcantara (men’s -68 kgs.), Francis Agojo (men’s -63 kgs.) at Joaquin Mendoza Jr. (men’s -63 kgs.).
