Police asset turned drug suspect killed

MANILA, Philippines – A former police asset who allegedly became a drug pusher was gunned down in Malabon City shortly after midnight yesterday.

Gaspar Mangiagit, 34, of Barangay Catmon, died at the scene from gunshot wounds in the back, city police commander Senior Superintendent John Chua said.

Investigation conducted by Police Officer 2 Julius Mabasa said Mangiagit was standing at a gasoline station at the corner of M.H. del Pilar street and Gov. Pascual Avenue when an unidentified man shot him.

Reports said a police officer was being investigated for Mangiagit’s killing.

Drug sting

Meanwhile, police arrested an alleged drug pusher in a sting in Pasig City on Tuesday night.

Rowel Abenes, alias Baleg, 42, was apprehended at 154 Caruncho Compound in Barangay Palatiw at around 6:30 p.m.

Abenes yielded three plastic sachets of shabu, police said.

Senior Inspector Abraham Satorre, head of the Eastern Police District (EPD) anti-illegal drug unit, tagged Abenes as the alleged supplier of shabu in Barangay Palatiw and nearby areas.

Police Officer 2 Mario Quibete arranged the sale of a sachet of shabu for P200 with Abenes.

The suspect was detained at the EPD jail. Drug charges are being readied against him.

Anti-crime drive

In Pasay City, three persons were arrested in separate anti-crime operations Tuesday night.

Vincent Ubaldo and Denmark Dayot were nabbed for alleged possession of firearms and ammunition in Barangay Palad, city police chief Senior Superintendent Joel Doria said.

Alexander Pilos, 28, a member of the Batang City Jail gang, was accosted for urinating along Apelo Cruz street.

When frisked, Pilos yielded a loaded Magnum .22 revolver, Doria said.
