MANILA, Philippines – The government will procure 76 brand new fire trucks to upgrade the fire protection services of capital cities and municipalities, the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) said over the weeked.

DILG Secretary Mel Senen Sarmiento said the acquisition was part of government’s efforts to boost the firefighting capability of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP).

“With the new fire trucks and continuous honing of firefighters’ skills, the BFP will be better equipped to protect our communities,” Sarmiento said.

DILG and BFP officials and representatives of the Rosenbauer International AG and the Austrian embassy signed the supply contract on Wednesday in Quezon City.

Sarmiento said the procurement was included in phase two of an Austrian-assisted BFP capability building project.

Fire trucks under the project’s phase one were delivered during the administration of  former DILG secretary Mar Roxas.

Sarmiento thanked the Rosenbauer firm and the Austrian government for supporting the Philippines’ initiatives to modernize the BFP.

Considered one of the finest and top-of-the-line brands, Rosenbauer  fire trucks have water pump discharge capacity of 2,400 liters per minute and powerful engines that can navigate even in inclined areas.
