PNoy names ASEAN exec as new Civil Service Commission chair

MANILA, Philippines - President Benigno Aquino III appointed a new Civil Service Commission (CSC) chair, Malacañang said Tuesday.

Communications Secretary Herminio Coloma Jr. said Aquino nominated Alicia Dela Rosa-Bala as CSC chair for a term expiring on Feb. 2, 2022.

Bala will replace Francisco Duque III who retired in February.

Coloma said Bala's nomination has been forwarded to the Commission on Appointments.

Bala recently completed her stint as deputy secretary general of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations Secretariat in Jakarta.

A Career Executive Service Officer since 1999, Bala once served as Department of Social Welfare Development undersecretary.

Bala holds a master in social work degree from the University of the Philippines and a bachelor's degree in social work from the Centro Escolar University.
