CEBU, Philippines - A woman and a motorcycle-for-hire driver died while the latter’s wife was seriously injured after the motorcycle they were riding fell on a rocky roadside Friday in Barangay Obong, Dalaguete town.

Police identified the fatalities as Aniana Anoba, 65,and Eduardo Delfan, 24. Delfan’s wife Marlyn, 42, was treated of her injuries and is now in stable condition.

Police Officer 2 Leo Gesim of Dalaguete Police Station said the victims were heading for the barangay proper at past 6 a.m. last Friday when the motorcycle lost brakes while descending the road.

The motorcycle overshot the road and the victims were thrown to the roadside filled with sharp-edged rocks.

Anoba reportedly died instantly after suffering from a fractured skull while Eduardo died while being brought to the hospital.

“Mabaw ra man ang natagakan, pero didto sila natugpa sa kabatoan mao’y hinungdan sa hinanaling kamatayon ni Anoba,” Gesim said.

Marlyn was transferred to Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center in Cebu City for further treatment.

Gesim said by the time policemen arrived at the area, the victims were still lying at the roadside.

Anoba, who was apparently dead already, was taken by the police and along with the couple, was rushed to Julio Cardinal Rosales Hospital where she was eventually declared dead on arrival.

Doctors referred the couple to be brought to VSMMC for proper treatment.

However, Eduard died while the ambulance he was on was still in Argao town. —/NSA (FREEMAN)
