MANILA, Philippines - Around 5.6 million families may be affected by typhoon 'Chedeng,' according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC).

The NDRRMC said some 5,619,221 families or 56,638,709 people from the National Capital Region, Cordillera Administrative Region and regions 1, 2, 3, 4-A, 4-B, 5 and 8, might be displaced by Chedeng.

A member of the council, the Department of Social Welfare and Development, said that it has pre-positioned more than 300,000 food packs worth over P106 million to be distributed to the affected areas.

Meanwhile, the Department of Interior and Local Government has advised both local and foreign tourists to reconsider travel plans to areas to be affected by weather disturbance.

"Please adjust your travel plans... tatama siya sa may Isabela- Aurora-Northern Quezon areas anytime between Saturday evening and Sunday morning. Mag-ingat po tayo," Roxas said.

For those who are now staying in these places, Roxas encouraged them to return to their homes by Friday, a day before Chedeng is expected to make its first landfall.

"We can't afford to risk the safety of the residents and an estimated 10,000 tourists in the various towns on the Eastern seabord," Roxas said.
