Lawyer denies suspended PNP chief ?Purisima resigned

MANILA, Philippines - The lawyer of suspended Philippine National Police chief Director General Alan Purisima on Thursday denied that the top cop has resigned his post.

"As far as I know, Police Director Alan La Madrid Purisima has not tendered any resignation," lawyer Kristoffer James Purisima said in a text message.

On Thursday afternoon, reports quoting Palace sources claimed that President Benigno Aquino III has accepted the resignation of the embattled PNP chief.

Purisima's reported resignation came 11 days following the Mamasapano incident where 44 members of the Special Action Force were killed during an encounter with Moro Islamic Liberation Front fighters while serving an arrest warrant against high profile terrorist Marwan.

Reports said Purisima called the shots in the Mamasapano operation despite his suspension.

Purisima has been suspended from his post due to a pending graft case before the Office of the Ombudsman.
