Pinoy darters triumph in HK

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Filipino darters sparkled abroad again recently as they dominated the Henry Ho Open Cup in the 25th Hong Konh Open darts championship at the former British Crown Colony.

JRS-1, composed of multi-titled Lourence Ilagan, Dixie Ybanez, Juanito Gionson and Nayr Ocampo, beat sister team JRS-2 in the finals.

Reigning Philippine Masters Cup champion Gilbert Ulang, Prussian Arceno, Alexis Toylo and Eduardo Santos carried the JRS-2 colors.

The two Philippine squads were sponsored and managed by John Royo Solpico and wife Mary Teresa.

World Dart Championship veteran Gionson maintained the Philippines’ dominance in the singles event by winning the title at the expense of ace Japanese darter Seigi.

Last September, Gionson also bagged the singles crown in the Malaysian Open championships.

Andy Lou Villamor and Dixie Ybanez finished third an fourth, respectively.
