“Hikay Kaldero Sugbu Challenge”
CEBU, Philippines – The flagship iteration of an inter-school cooking competition, spearheaded by one of Cebu’s favorite dining destinations, tested the culinary mettles of chefs-in-the-making on September 27.
Teams of three members each competed in the event dubbed “Hikay Kaldero Sugbu Challenge 2014,” at the Calyx Center in Cebu IT Park. |the contest task was to come up with three native Filipino fusion-themed dishes – using seafood, pork and chicken as the key ingredients for each dish.
The team of the UC Main’s Mitchell Fritz Najarro, Katherine Marie Ruedas and Christian Grace Sabocuhan bagged the Gold Prize. Their winning dish entries were “Hikay ni Luzviminda,” “Sinugbang Gusok nga Naa’y Kalo-kalo,” and “Manok sa Lantay.” The team of UCLM’s Bonifacio Belvis Jr., Jelson Escaran and Junrel Maymay garnered the Silver Prize, for their “Pinakuratang Pasayan,” “Humbang Pata with Pusit & Sab-a,” and “Pinoy Hikay sa Pulang Manok.”
Stephen Lloyd Dingcong, Rey Josef Sarunitman and Jan Warren Torres, the team from the city’s Department of Manpower Development and Placement, bagged the Bronze Prize for their dishes “Lapu-Lapu Estakitshi with Taosio,” “Lechon Kawali in Kulo with Cocoa Syrup,” and “Sinugbang Abaga sa Manok with Camote.”
Aside from cash prizes, the winners also get the chance for their creations to be included in the 2015 menu of “Hikay Lutong Pinoy,” the establishment that organized the cooking competition.
