MANILA, Philippines - A lawmaker is pushing for the printing of tourist destinations in the country on outgoing postage stamps.

Parañaque Rep. The bill, also known as the "Philippine Stamp Act of 2013", requires the Department of Tourism and Tourism Promotions Board to assist PhilPost in identifying tourist spots to be depicted in stamps.

"To further accelerate our tourism promotion efforts which campaign slogan is 'It's more Fun in the Philippines", it is necessary that we make known the existence of the famous tourist destinations in the country," Olivarez said.

The lawmaker emphasized tourism as one of the "anchor industries" in which the national government is relying to attain the status of a newly industrialized country in Asia.

Sending postage stamps depicting tourist spots in the country would arouse interest for possible tourists without extra cost for the government, Olivarez said.

HB 2417 was approved on second reading at the House of Representatives on September 25.
