Laborer stabs man dead due to misunderstanding

CEBU, Philippines - A 62-year-old laborer landed in jail after he stabbed a man dead at the Dalaguete Public Market in Barangay Poblacion, Dalaguete at past 2 pm on Saturday.

Suspect Bernardino Umali, of Barangay Saksak, was arrested after stabbing to death Celestino Omnus, 48, allegedly over misunderstanding.

Investigation revealed that after having a miscommunication, the suspect took a knife and stabbed the victim several times on his stomach.

The suspect fled on foot while the victim was brought to Julio Cardinal Rosales District Hospital and was referred to South General Hospital in the City of Naga.

The attending physician declared the victim dead on arrival.

After receiving the report, Dalaguete Police responded to the crime scene and engaged the suspect in a brief chase.

Umali was arrested while still holding a knife with traces of blood believed to be that of the victim.

The suspect will be charged with homicide.  (FREEMAN)
