Thompson dominates NCAA anew

MANILA, Philippines -- Perpetual Help's Earl Scottie Thompson is putting up a show.

On his most recent performance, he came out with his first triple-double of his young career by dropping 15 points, 13 rebounds and 12 assists in the Altas' 73-65 win over the Emilio Aguinaldo Generals last Friday that extended their streak to three in the 90th NCAA basketball tournament.

Thompson thus emerged with his first triple-double of his career after he came one assist shy of accomplishing such feat by coming through with 16 points, 11 caroms and nine dimes in a win over St. Benilde two seasons back.

It was also the first one in the league since former San Sebastian juggernaut Calvin Abueva unleashed 21 points, 20 boards and 10 assists also two years ago.

So impressive was Thompson that the proud son of Digos, Davao del Sur has averaged 20.67 points, 11 rebounds, seven assists, two steals and nearly a block and just less than two errors in his first three games.

It was enough to seal Thompson the ACCEL Quantum Plus-316 NCAA Press Corps Player of the Work plum, his second straight after he also received the award backed by Bactigel hand sanitizer, Doctor J alcohol, Mighty Mom anti-bacteria.

And Perpetual Help coach Aric del Rosario is impressed.

"He works out twice a day outside of our daily practice, does pull ups and push ups even during practices. His extra work is paying dividence," said del Rosario in Filipino referring to Thompson.

Thompson bested Baser Amer, who erupted for a team high 18 points including a pair of clutch baskets in the stretch to help four-time champion San Beda turn back Arellano U, 90-81, Saturday.
