Binay loyal to Aquino, UNA insists

MANILA, Philippines - Vice President Jejomar Binay has been loyal not only to President Aquino but also to the entire Aquino clan even before they became politicians, the United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) maintained yesterday.

UNA secretary-general and Navotas Rep. Toby Tiangco also said that Binay did not blink in his loyalty to the Aquino clan even if it meant sacrificing his life.

“All his life, especially during the 1989 coup where President Noynoy was shot, Binay not only showed his true color. The Vice President put his life on the frontline. And even after Cory Aquino became president, he did not leave her and he remained loyal,” Tiangco told ANC.

Earlier, Caloocan Rep. Edgar Erice urged Binay to resign from the Cabinet and show his true colors as an opposition. He also accused UNA of quietly pirating members of the Liberal Party.

But Tiangco said Erice’s calling on Binay to resign was misplaced because Binay was performing very well in his job as vice president and member of the Cabinet.

Tiangco advised Erice to train his eyes instead on Cabinet members who are not doing well in their work in government.

“Why do you have to call for the resignation of a government official, a Cabinet member, with the highest ratings in terms of performance, approval and trust rating? This means that the people are happy with his work,” Tiangco said.

“You should call for those with the lowest approval rating to resign. That is what is right,” he added.
