Taguig Stalwarts, Antipolo Mixers dispute PBA plum
MANILA, Philippines - Unbeaten Taguig-PBA Stalwarts and Antipolo-San Mig Super Coffee pulled off contrasting wins yesterday to advance to the finals of the 2014 Gatorade Batang PBA Summer League at the San Juan gym.
The Antipolo Mixers downed the Caloocan PBA Greats, 52-40, after breaking away from a tight first half, while Taguig rallied from a seven-point halftime deficit to edge KABAKA/Manila San Miguel Beer, 45-42, to complete a 5-0 sweep of Group B.
They dispute the crown at 9:30 a.m. today at the JSCGO gym with KABAKA-Manila and Caloocan battling for third at 8 a.m.
Taguig dealt Antipolo its lone elimination round loss, 41-38.
Jaenyl Maglente led Taguig with 20 points against a KABAKA-Manila squad which raced to a 12-5 lead in the first quarter and 16-9 at the intermission. Nicole Quinal had 20 for the losers.
In the other semis game, Julian Jugo fired 11 points as Antipolo took control from the onset, 14-8, wavered a bit in the second quarter but regained its poise in the third period.
