San Sebastian turns back Perpetual in V-League
MANILA, Philippines – San Sebastian bucked the absence of Gretchel Soltones and the loss of guest player Maruja Banaticla to a sprained ankle as it turned back NCAA titlist Perpetual Help, 25-18, 17-25, 27-25, 23-25, 15-13, to post its first win in two starts in the Shakey's V-League Season 11-1st Conference at The Arena in San Juan Tuesday.
Czarina Verbano paced the Lady Stags with 19 hits while Jolina Labiano, import setter Ryzabelle Devanadera and Bea Uy scattered 16, 15 and 11 points, respectively, to give coach Roger Gorayeb a fitting gift since his promotion to San Sebastian athletic director recently.
Soltones sat out this game after spraining an ankle in a loss to Far Eastern U last week.
The solid-spiking Banaticla tweaked an ankle early in the first set, came back to finish the set, returned in the second before she asked to be pulled back because of the recurring pain and finished with six hits.
The Lady Altas, who were led by Jamela Suyat's 21 and Norie Jane Diaz's 17, fell to their second straight setback.
