Councilor asks DepEd to grant regular jobs to board topnotchers
CEBU, Philippines - A local legislator wants the Department of Education (DepEd) to grant a regular permanent teaching position to those individuals from Talisay City College (TCC) who top the Licensure Examination for Teachers (LET).
City Councilor Dennis Basillote, chairman of the committee on education, said that for five consecutive years, several graduates from TCC have brought pride and honor to the school as they topped the LET from 2009 to 2013.
Since 2009, TCC has produced graduates entering the top 10 spots of LET passers. Back in 2009, TCC elementary education graduate Aiza Pansacala earned the ninth spot.
The following year, fellow TCC alumna Zaldy Villarias earned the tenth spot. In 2011, another TCC education graduate Kaye Misa landed on the eighth place.
In 2012, Diana Rose Zamoras, 20, a graduate of Bachelor of Elementary Education majoring in Special Education (SPED), earned the seventh spot in the elementary teachers’ category.
Last year, LET passers Junnalie Labajo Brago and her fellow TCC graduate Angielo Labajo Pahamutang placed 10th in the elementary and secondary levels, respectively.
"The achievements of Talisay City College paved the way for Talisay City to be known nationally in the field of education," Basillote said.
Basillote pointed out that "their contributions are more than enough for them to be granted an item, for credit shall be given to where it is due" because it will help them in living better lives.
The TCC is the brainchild of then congressman Eduardo Gullas when he was the city mayor in 2001.
The city ordinance creating it was approved in 2004. It first opened its gates to students in June 2004. (FREEMAN)
