PAGASA warns of flashfloods, landslides in Aurora, Quezon due to heavy rains

Louis Bacani - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The northeast monsoon affecting Northern Luzon may bring heavy rains over the provinces of Aurora and Quezon that could trigger flashfloods and landslides, the state weather bureau said Thursday.

In its 24-hour public weather forecast, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said the two provinces will experience cloudy skies with moderate to occasionally heavy rainshowers and thunderstorms.

Cagayan Valley, Bicol and the Davao region will have cloudy skies with light to moderate rainshowers and thunderstorms while the regions of Cordillera and Ilocos will be cloudy with light rains.

PAGASA said Metro Manila and the rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms.

The agency added that moderate to strong winds blowing from the northeast will prevail over Luzon and its coastal waters will be moderate to rough.

Elsewhere, winds will be light to moderate coming from the east to northeast with slight to moderate seas.

Strong to gale-force winds associated with the northeast monsoon may also affect the northern and eastern seaboards of Luzon, according to PAGASA.

"Fishing boats and other small seacrafts are advised not to venture out into the sea while larger sea vessels are alerted against big waves," it said.
