Que fourth in Indian Open, pockets P2 million
MANILA, Philippines - Angelo Que missed what was his closest shot at the fourth Asian Tour crown as he bogeyed two of the last three holes and settled for joint fourth with a closing 72 worth P2 million in the Indian Open won by Siddikur of Bangladesh at the Delhi Golf Club in India yesterday.
Que, who stayed in contention in the $1.25 million event with a 67 Saturday, tied for the lead at 13-under heading to the par-5 18th but cracked under pressure and fumbled with a bogey, dropping instead to fourth at 12-under 276 in a tie with Korean Baek Seuk Hun and local bet Chiragh Kumar, who both had 68s.
Que took home $47,750 (P2 million).
It was a sorry finish for Que, who hit two birdies and made a couple of clutch pars to stay in the hunt a flight behind the championship group. But as Siddikur stumbled with a triple bogey on No. 14 and made a bogey on the next, the Filipino ace and India’s Anirban Lahira forged a three-way tie at 13-under despite a bogey on the 16th.
But Siddikur recovered his bearing and birdied the par-3 17th to regain the solo lead then parred the last hole to clinch the crown at 14-under 274 despite a three-over 75, one ahead of Lahiri, who had a 70, and another local bet SP Chowrasia, who matched par 72, at 275.
Tony Lascuña, Que’s partner in the World Cup in two weeks time in Australia, fired a 71 for joint 13th at 280 and received $17,719 (P760,000) while Jay Bayron wound up joint 38th at 287 after a 74 worth $7,536 (P324,000).
