Agojo seeks elusive LPGT win at John Hay

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - A two-time runner-up, Jayvie Agojo hopes to put it all together this time as she chases the elusive win in the final leg of the inaugural ICTSI Ladies Philippine Golf Tour at Camp John Hay beginning tomorrow in Baguio City.

To prepare herself for the big test in the P500,000 event at the demanding up-and-down John Hay layout, Agojo took up the plyometrics training to strengthen her legs and core at the House of Pain under coach John Aquino.

“Since John Hay is a hilly course, I need to be in tip-top condition but emphasis should be on putting and I need a little bit of luck to finally nail the elusive win,” said Agojo.

The former Philippine Ladies Open champion is actually coming off a breakthrough pro victory at Singha LPGA in Thailand last September but it’s the local crown she’s been itching to win the last six months.

“The Thai tournament is a different thing but I’ll try to bring the good memories (of that win) and good shots that I did in Thailand at John Hay,” said Agojo, who finished second to absentee Dottie Ardina in the kickoff leg of the tour organized by Pilipinas Golf Tournaments, Inc. at The Country Club Invitational and to back-to-back leg champion Cyna Rodriguez at Eagle Ridge.

Counting her two other fifth place finishes at the Canlubang and Wack Wack legs of the first-ever ladies pro circuit sponsored by ICTSI, Agojo is leading the LPGT Order of Merit race with earnings of P212,000, just P12,000 ahead of Rodriguez, who swept her first two pro events in smashing fashions.

In Baguio, however, Agojo said anything can happen with no player holding a distinct advantage over the other at the short but challenging par-69 course.
