Odette leaves P1-M palay losses in Negros

BACOLOD CITY , Philippines– Typhoon Odette which triggered heavy rains left palay losses amounting to about P1 million in Negros Occidental, authorities said.

In his report to Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. on Monday, provincial agriculturist Igmedio Tabianan said palay planted to 35.8 hectares across the province was destroyed, although the crops were insured under the Negros First Universal Crop Insurance Program.

Affected were La Carlota City, 3.25 hectares; Cadiz City, 12 hectares; San Carlos City, 5.5 hectares; Pulupandan, 4.90 hectares; Hinobaan, two hectares; Pontevedra, 4.4 hectares; La Castellana, 2.75 hectares; and Moises Padilla, one hectare.
